I'm recently spending the bulk of my weekends unplugged from the computer, internet, TV and phone, and trying to spend time with my family doing stuff both at home and outdoors. This is a series of posts about it.
Not only does spending the weekend unplugged allow us to spend great time together without distractions, it also means we get a lot more done about the house and spend a lot more time involved in activities that are good for our health. One of the things we've done is grow a 'green curtain', which is a natural shade over our windows to help keep the house cool in summer, something of heightened importance this year as there may not be enough electricity to power air-conditioning due to the stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant.
We have planted goya (bitter melon) due to the fact that it grows very quickly and produces a very healthy fruit that I love. We've already grown a few that we will be eating during the week and we'll probably produce enough to give away to friends.
